How to play RosikBall

The controls, the rules and a few tips — everything you need for your first match.

RosikBall is football with round players, one ball and two goals, in a 3D arena with walls all around. Two teams, Red and Blue, try to put the ball in the other team's goal. It is quick to learn: you move, you kick, you jump — the rest is positioning, timing and angles.

The objective

Score more goals than the other team before the time runs out, or be the first to reach the room's score limit. Every player is a disc on the pitch; there is no goalkeeper role and no offside — anyone can defend, attack and score. The arena is enclosed, so the ball bounces off the walls and play hardly ever stops.

Moving

Your disc reacts at once: it speeds up quickly, stops quickly and turns on the spot. Your own disc has a light ring around it, so you can always find it. You can step a little outside the pitch's lines (the ball cannot), which helps to get behind the ball near the walls. Holding the kick key slows you down a little, so you can line up a shot.

Kicking

Hold the kick key and your disc lights up: the kick fires the moment the ball is within reach. A kick adds speed to the ball, mostly in the direction from the centre of your disc through the ball and a little towards where you are running — so where you touch the ball decides where it goes. Running into the ball without kicking pushes it along: that is how you dribble.

The walls are part of the game: a ball kicked against a wall comes back at an angle, keeping its speed along the wall. Use them to pass around a defender or to send a quick shot back towards goal.

Jumping and lob shots

Press jump to leave the ground. In the air you can meet a high ball, block a shot or reach a ball bouncing over the others. There is no special lob button: a lob comes from how you kick. Kick the ball just after you take off, or kick it from below, and it rises — over a defender, or over the players in front of the goal and down into it.

When the ball is in the air, its shadow shrinks and a ring around it shows the height; a target ring on the ground shows where it will land, so you can be there first. When the ball is off the screen, an arrow on the edge points to it.

Scoring and the match

A goal counts when the ball crosses the goal line between the posts and under the crossbar. The goal banner names the scorer and who gave the assist. After a goal, play restarts from the centre: the team that conceded kicks off (Red kicks off the first one), and until the kickoff both teams stay in their own half, with the other team outside the centre circle.

A room can have a time limit and a score limit. If the scores are level when the time is up, the match goes to overtime: the next goal wins. At the end, a short recap shows the score and every goal.

Teams

Every room has three groups: Red, Blue and the Spectators. You join a room as a spectator; open the room menu with Esc and drag your card to a team, or wait for a room admin to put you in one. Admins start and stop matches, pick the field and the limits, and can lock the teams. Admins can also add bots to fill a team. A player who stays still for 30 seconds while the ball is in play is marked AFK (away); press any key to come back.
